Examine key legal and ethical concepts related to massage and bodywork including professional roles and boundaries in the health field. Learn essential tips for medical record keeping and professional liability insurance.

This course covers:

negligence and malpractice and identify the four elements of negligence
intentional and quasi-intentional tort and recognizing how they differ from negligence or strict liability
assault, battery, sexual assault, false imprisonment, defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress
consent and recognize an example of it
the defenses to intentional and quasi-intentional torts
examples of breach of confidentiality
essential roles, rights and responsibilities that are required in order to be recognized as a professional
transference, countertransference, consent and boundaries and applying them to important practice situations
basic professional liability insurance terms and concepts
main reasons why independent contractors and employed healthcare professionals both need professional liability insurance
components of a typical professional liability policy
healthcare professional's obligations regarding the informed consent process
who may give consent on behalf of the patient when s/he is unable to do so
the types of circumstances that may involve special consent rules
the purposes and major uses of the medical record
components of SOAP charting
implications of releasing confidential information about the patient
